We spent the day touring Siracusa, the Southern most city in Italy. We took a quick trip out to Ortiga Island and had the opportunity to walk around take in the sights. The water was crystal clear! Once we got back to the mainland, we visited the Duomo and the Greek Amphitheater. Both of these highlighted the region's tremendous history - the Duomo has been used as a religious building since this area was first civilized and has transformed itself through the Greek, Roman, Norman and Byzantine eras. We finished off the day with a meal of Sicilian bread, meat and cheese and treated ourselves to a cannoli with pistachio butter (they are known for their pistachios here!).
