Dublin: Day 2

Day 2 started with an early wake-up call, a quick breakfast, re-packing and then on the move to our second hostel.  The first night we were able to find a hostel with a private room for the four of us right in the Temple Bar area at Oliver St. John's hostel.  However, they only had availability for one night so we moved our bags to Jacob's hostel for the second night. A little inconvenient, but no big deal.

We then decided to go to Kilmainham Gaol located slightly outside of Dublin city. While this should have been a quick jaunt it turned out to be a long ordeal because of a few missteps.  While we did not know exactly where we were going, our journey was mostly interrupted by the many wrong directions we were given by some Irish folks.  It turns out that if an Irish person does not know the answer to your question instead of actually telling you that they do not know, they will just lie and make up an answer.

After an hour or so of walking in the wrong direction we eventually made it there!

Kilmainham Gaol is one of Dublin's oldest jail's and the heart of a lot of Dublin's history.  It held all of the political prisoners during the time of the Ireland's fight for independence before their execution.

On the way back to the city we encountered a protest. As of October 1st citizens now have to pay for water and people are very upset about it.  It was very cool to see people so united over an issue and being active to try and get their voices heard.

Later on we stopped for dinner at Cafe Topolis for dinner, and it was a great find!

Pizza with Salami and Mozzarella for dinner and a death by chocolate cake for us to split for dessert

Afterwards, because my tradition has become getting gelato on all of my trips I decided I could not break my streak; and this time's choice was cookies
