Holy Cross sponsors one trip over the course of this year for the Cork students, and it is this Ring of Kerry weekend. We met at 2pm on Friday afternoon on campus, and left for the weekend. It is an organized trip through an outside program so there were also students from Loyola, Quinnipiac, and a few other schools that joined us.
Our first stop on Friday was to Crag Caves. This was very cool, but during our Early Start class in August we had gone to the Mitchelstown Caves which were much larger. It was very dark in the caves, so none of my pictures came out.
Once done at the Caves we headed on to the Ring of Kerry Hotel and arrived around 6:30pm. We checked into our rooms and had a little time to unpack and then had to head down to the restaurant in the hotel for dinner. I was sharing a room with Caitlin and Julia for the weekend.
After dinner we headed into the great room where we had activities planned for us for the night. The first speaker was a couple of Gaelic football players who explained to us the sport, and then got us involved and showed us how to play.
After we had warmed up with the Gaelic football drills, the real workout came. Four Irish step dancers and a few band players came into the room for an Irish step dance tutorial. They started us off slowly by showing us the basic steps, and how they correspond to the music, and then we were off doing dance after dance. It was a lot of fun but really exhausting!
We finally ended the evening around 10pm and we were all so tired and sweaty at this point that we headed to our rooms for a hot shower, and a good nights sleep.
